Link tasks, break them into subtasks, and edit as in VS Code, in a root that answers at once

0.11.0 · 2026-10-01

Tasks link to each other and hold ordered subtasks, ids are shorter and can be found anywhere, editing saves on its own with a File menu in place of Save buttons, and a large root that took over a minute to check now takes under a second.

New

  • Link tasks and say how

A task's Links section links another task as blocks, is blocked by, relates to, duplicates, or clones, and the other task shows the link from its side; a blocked task is marked on the board and in the table. Reword or add the types on the Backlog's Links settings tab, or use eidos backlog link. Backlog →

  • Subtasks in order

A subtask is numbered from its parent (T-F36.1, T-F36.2), sits under it in the Backlog table, and is listed, reordered, and added on the parent's page, a new one or an existing task. Turn on Show subtasks on the board in Preferences to give each its own card. Backlog →

  • Edit as in VS Code

Edits save themselves a second after you stop typing, and Save, Save All, and Revert File are in the File menu and on ⌘S, ⌥⌘S. Pick another Auto Save in Preferences, as in VS Code; with it off, an unsaved tab shows a dot and asks before it closes. A change made outside the app is never written over. The workbench →

  • Shorter ids, found anywhere

New roots draw short ids that grow as the root does (T-F36), a task or decision type can carry a prefix (T-BF36), an id can be set by hand, and an old id keeps working after it changes. Type an id in any picker or in Quick Open to find the thing. Backlog →

  • Faces and your own name

People show their Gravatar picture where their initials were, the AI Agent has a mark of its own, and you are picked out in the accent colour wherever you appear. Turn pictures off with Show Gravatar pictures in Preferences. The Browser →

  • Your own sidebar order

Drag the collections, the top-level documents, saved views, canvases, drafts, and the activities into the order you want, or use Move up and Move down; the order is yours alone. The workbench →

Improved

  • Everything answers at once

On a root of 135 tasks and 539 decisions, eidos check went from 82 s to under a second, the page answers a change in under 100 ms, and the desktop app shows the backlog in about a second.

  • A shorter New Root

Next sits at the top, a framework is chosen with one click, the AI Agent gets the room, and the new root offers its first blueprint.

  • A calmer task page

Properties hold still while the body scrolls, long titles stop at the panel's edge, lists add from Add assignee and Add blueprint, and every table has a refresh.

Changed

  • Dependencies become links

eidos check reports each task still holding dependencies; run eidos backlog migrate-dependencies --dry-run, then without --dry-run, or click Migrate, and each becomes a relates to link. Backlog →

  • A task's file is named by its id

New tasks are written as t-f36-ship-the-login-page.md. Run eidos backlog rename-files --dry-run, then without it, to rename the tasks you have, every link following, and commit. Backlog →

  • Canvas is off in a new root

A new root starts with Canvas and Backlog off; turn them on under Plugins. Roots you already have keep both.

  • Portuguese is Brazilian, and Things is Ledger

The app's Portuguese reads as Brazilian, as the docs do, and the Things theme is named Ledger; a person who chose Things gets Ledger.

Fixed

  • The desktop app quits

Cmd+Q, a restart, and Restart to Update no longer leave the app running until it is force quit.

  • Right-click a misspelled word

The desktop app shows the spelling suggestions, and a line break you type shows as a line break.

  • Modals behave

Enter in New task keeps the assignee, deleting from a modal closes it, New draft makes a draft, and a status changed in a modal leaves a view it no longer fits.

Known limitations

Decisions keep a date without a time, and a blueprint's file keeps its title's name; the File menu in a browser opens from a right-click on the bar across the top.
